Just curious if people use carseats there or if I'd stand out like a sore thumb if my child is in one while riding in the car.

I want her to be safe, but that can be interpreted in many ways... traffic safety vs. blending in safety.

Any thoughts/ observations are great.

Well, they do sell them here. However, I have yet to see anyone use one properly. I hear parents do use them more frequently in Algiers and Oran, the larger cities. I am in Setif where it is commonplace for parents to hold small children in their laps in the the front seat! And it is a struggle to convince folks to buckle them up in the backseat.

Definitely safety first. Fight them tooth and nail to install the seat properly because the drivers are crazy here.

I would certainly advise you to secure your child in the car with a seat belt because the driving is very dangerous & also the roads are very bad with pot holes everywhere so on both accounts id say "do not worry about standing out like a sore thumb" just think SAFETY!



Ive witnessed several accidents on the two occassions ive visited Algeria & one was a fatality where 1 young girl died so please be careful on the roads whilst there.
