I have been reading on the forum beaches to visit on the coast. I can hardly wait !! Do they allow dogs on beaches there? they are not allowed here in Florida. Also, are their any nice Hotels on the coast that allow dogs? We have a small Cairin terrier...named Toto of course!

Here's one possibility, elle: http://www.theoceanlodge.com/. It's the newest, and one of the nicer places in Cannon Beach. And dogs are allowed on the beach. They're supposed to be on leash, but my observation is that the regulation isn't very strictly adhered to. And I don't mind; just love seeing the joy and sense of freedom in the dogs' faces as they run and play.

Like mistletoe, we usually see dogs running loose. The good thing is we have yet to come across a dog that needed to be on a leash. Another hotel that is nice and allows dogs is the SurfSand in Cannon Beach. We have stayed there numerous times, and always take our dog. They remodeled their oceanfront building, and it was fine before, so I am sure it is really nice now. The hotel provides a doggie welcome kit, with a beach towel, sheet, dog treats and a small sampler of dog food. They also provide bowls. There is a small per night pet fee, about $8 or so. The hotel has a few "stations" for dogs that have waste bags to use, and they also have one right as you go down to the beach. When are you coming? We just made reservations at SurfSand for early July, midweek, and got the last 2 rooms for our dates. So I would suggest making reservations as soon as you know your dates.

Dogs are allowed on all beaches in Oregon. They DO NOT have to be leashed, but under voice command. The exception is on a beach fronting a state park where they must be confined to a leash, no longer than 6 foot, at all times (just as in the park itself). For more infromation check www.oregonstateparks.org. Here you can also access the OAR's (Oregon Administrative Rules) as they relate to state parks and the ocean shores recreation area. Dennis

Pup loves Cannon Beach!! I wanted to let him off leash, since all the dogs around us were, but my luck, he would throw himself into the surf and we would have a wet sandy very hairy dog to drive home with lol. Toto will love it ;O) In Jacksonville Fl, we used to take Pup to a beach in Ponte Vedra, dogs were allowed, we would go in the late afternoon off season and let him run without a leash, mistletoe is right, nothing like that look on their faces .. Elle, when will you be here?

phirl--lol! Our dog is about 85 pounds...so you definitely feel it if she runs to you! She does not like the waves though. She doesn't mind the water, but as soon as the waves come in she is back on dry sand.
