Hi, I have been to Soldeu many times, but have not stayed in the Himalaia. To find an answer to your question, I suggest you read the reviews on Trip Advisor, and send a private message to someone who has stayed in a studio room. That's what I do when I want to find out something about a specific hotel. We stayed in the Bruxelles this feb, and I got a lot of extra info from PM's to different review posters.
This is the link to the Himalaia reviews.

If your wife is not skiing, I think you can buy a lift pass for the gondola only, so she can go up to the ski area and meet you for lunch, or sit at one of the two restaurants there and read/ relax if the weather is sunny. Alternatively, the Sport Village hotel is next to the gondola station, and has a very nice lounge with piste views, and comfortable armchairs. The Sport Hermitage nearby is a 5 star hotel, with a Wellness Centre and Spa open to the public. Nice pool and outdoor hot tub.
The Piolets hotel opposite the Himalaia also has a pool, outdoor jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and is cheaper than the Heritage but not as grand.
What about taking a portable DVD player with you?!
