I've heard good things about the 16 euro hostel, near old town and centrally located:

Also Hotel Go Schnell by the train station is cheap, sometimes 20 euro. www.gohotels.ee

Hi
I am visiting Tallinn with my sister for 3 nights from 29th January. We will be staying in St. Olav Hotel. Is this a nice hotel, and is it central? Also, I read about the outside Ice Skating in Old Town, will this still be open then? I would also be greatful for tips on what else to do during the days, and what is good in terms of nightlife. Is it also likely ...

Cold. Can't say how cold, but
The only difference for Helsinki ferries in the ice season is that Linda Line doesn't operate. You can take Viking, Tallink or Ecker - that's my personal order of preference. One day is enough to get a taste, particularly at this time of year. 10, 20 or 30 degrees of frost won't encourage you to wander around if you're not used to it.
The 'Russian' fort you mention would ...

Post subject: Parnu in April?? Posted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 6:07 pm |

Hi,
We are planning a trip from the 21st to 26th April (Easter), just wondering if it is worth visiting Parnu out of the summer season?
We fly in and out of Tallinn and are also hoping to visit Tartu, so if not Parnu are there any other suggestions?
Also, does anyone know if shops/restaurants etc will be open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday/Monday?
Thanks

Post subject: Helsinki for a day?? Posted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:38 am |

We are spending 3 nights / 4 days in Tallin in Sept. 2 days are travelling days so are short days.
We are considering a day trip to Helsinki - do people think it is worth it?
How far is the center from the ferry port?
Does the quickest ferry take 90 mins?
What are the main sights we should be viewing during the day trip?
many thanks and any advice welcome!

Visit the fascinating island of Naissaar, just off the coast of
Tallinn, and stunning views of the Tallinn skyline.
While on the island, visitors can ride the narrow-gauge railway, dine in Naissaar restaurant and enjoy the area's beautiful forests and beaches.
Naissaar with over 9 abandoned military fortresses since 1700 is now known also for its untouched forests and beaches, lighthouses, working narrow-gauge railway and pub.
