I will be in Reykjavik Aug 28-Sept 1 and then we are getting a car to drive some of the ring road. While in Reykjavik, we want to ride the Icelandic ponies and go on the Golden Circle tour. Should I book in advance or is there always room on the tours if I want to plan when I get there? We are staying at the Nordica. Thanks!

I am traveling to Iceland on my own to join up with a volunteer group. I am arriving a few days early and my flight gets in around midnight.



Does anyone have suggestions of where to stay around the airport and about transportation that late at night?



I'll be a single woman traveling so safety is my biggest concern.

It seems like the cost to rent a car for two people may be more expensive than joining a tour group with the rising cost of gasoline. Even so, I like the freedom of having my own wheels.



I'd like to rent/pick-up in the city vs. the airport.



1) Other than Avis, Hertz, etc. what are some European or local car companies that offer the best rates? I'm hoping that these companies will be cheaper?? ...
