For those that have driven the main road along the south coast of Uruguay, how is the ride? Is it all flat land? Boring? Beautiful? What kind of landscape? Does it change as you go further east or mostly the same the whole way?
Can you see the water from the highway? Any good stopping points along the way that I should see? What is the speed limit in MPH? Are there plenty of gas ...

I'm afraid you posted in the wrong country forum. Try posting in the Patagonia forum or maybe even the Ushuaia forum.

Post subject: Buenos Ares to Montevideo via Colonia Posted: Tue Oct 16, 2007 12:10 pm |

If youre interested in having a look at Colonia on your way from Buenos Aires to Montevideo its quite straightforward. I couldnt find all the details in one place, so heres our experience. We booked our ferry tickets (e-tickets) on-line at www.buquebus.com a couple of weeks before travelling (mid November, which is before the Jan/Feb peak). On the ferry it looked like there were a few spare seats, so you mayve been able to buy ...

Theres a new cultural offer in Punta del Este, a bus that takes people to several points of interest, some of them difficult to get if you dont have a car, the mos t interesting spots in my opinion are Museo Ralli and Arboretum Lussich.

I held off responding, thinking someone who lives in Jose Ignacio might respond. I live in Punta del Este, but go to Jose Ignacio several times per month and know the area very well. If you're in a hotel, it will have wireless Internet. If you're renting a home, it should, too. This area is well built-out for Internet. There are no "cafes" in Jose Ignacio, but the restaurant that dominates the area, La Huella, ...

Just got back from Punta Del Este and I liked that the hotels were cheaper and not so crowded just before what I hear the Madness starts. Great weather, a little windy sometimes. Beaches are like California and water is cold in Dec. Our hotel was the Pennisula at $65 US per night. Simple room, pool did not have water yet and right on the main street walk to everything. I was in Santiago and ...
