Hi again

I just posted for info in 'Hello St.Petersberg' thread.

Is late June a good time to visit? I'm just looking for some preliminary tips before booking a surprise break.

Many thanks:-)

Stoofer

Stooferuk,

I have just returned to the UK after over 2 years in St.Petersburg, I adored it. I lived there on business and had my family over for some long spells (kids 12 and 17) so have bags of info if you want to make contact.

You will love it, I miss it so much.

Colin

June should be fine. But because of how far north S.P. is, I would take with me a nice sweater and or jacket that is also a wind breaker. The nights can get a little cool so make sure that you take a jacket that has at least some insulation. Have a nice time.

I was there in late June both 2006 and 2007. This June was mixed - sunny and warm most of the time, but I was glad I brought along a light raincoat because I seemed to wind up needing it at least a couple hours out of each day.

June 2006 , on the other hand, was just plain beastly hot. I recall commenting to one of the Russians I met that the country needed more air conditioning - only to have her come back with "We need more HEAT in this country!" I suppose there's somethng about winter months full of 18-20 hour nights that makes 90 degree weather seem pleasant even without A/C.

Hi Colin

Thanks for your input.

I have just spent 2 days solid trying to organise this trip, and I'm still comming up short.

Hotels saying they won't do triples or add children to rooms, the trains can't be booked until 4 weekds before our requirement,

etc. etc. We could end up stranded in the wrong city which I'm not prepared to risk with my daughter in tow.

One hotel said they would take our booking, it seems a fairly basic place but it was costing 1500 for a week room only. Plus they want a fee for letter of invitation you must pay 300 for visa and go to London embasy etc. etc.

I've now given up!!!!! Russia will have to wait until our daughter is a bit older, I'm just not comfortable booking and I'm a seasoned traveller. I don't mind expense if I know I'm staying the right places but this ends up looking like a 4000 weeks holiday for the itinerary we wanted, possibly to end up tired and frustrated.

So we are re-thinking the 89 days we have for holiday - looks like Marrakech with a few side trips.

Thanks anyway

Stoofer
